PREP VOLLEYBALL

Springdale High def. Rogers Heritage

The Lady Red’Dogs won 25-20, 25-20, 24-26 and 25-21 in 7A-West Conference play Thursday night.

Kristin Hylton led the way for Springdale (4-5 in 7A-West) with 22 kills and four blocks. Lauren Perry added eight kills and four blocks. Libero Chloe Brown also contributed 22 digs. Setter Tisha Watkins also chipped in 28 assists.

Springdale hosts Fort Smith Southside on Tuesday.

Fayetteville def. FS Northside

Fort Smith Northside gave Fayetteville all it could handle in the first two games, but the Lady Purple Bulldogs were too much as they claimed a 25-19, 25-17, 25-11 7A-West win in Kaundart-Grizzly Fieldhouse.

The Lady Bears (5-9, 1-8) held a 12-7 lead in the opening game, but Fayetteville went on a 14-2 run to take control of the match. Most of the points during the run came off of Northside miscues but Northside coach Catherine Young knows that Fayetteville (12-8-1, 8-1) had to work for the win.

The Lady Purple’Dogs remained tied for the league lead with Springdale Har-Ber, which knocked off Bentonville on Thursday.

Northside cut the Fayetteville lead to 21-17 after a block from Keisha Tucker, but the Lady Bulldogs scored four of the game’s last six points to take the early lead.

“I felt like Northside did a good job of hanging with us in games one and two,” Fayetteville coach Jessica Phelan said. “I thought we did a good job serving and because of that, we were able to set up our defense.”

Northside again took an early lead in game two but an 11-2 run by Fayetteville ended any chance of an upset.

Fayetteville closed the match with 13 straight points to seal the road win.

“Blocking was huge for us tonight,” Phelan said. “It is a huge momentum builder and this was a big night for Morgan Cosby. Serving and blocking are two keys to defensive control and we had those aspects working tonight.”

FS Southside def. Rogers High

Six years ago, when the 7A-West ran through Southside, the Confederettes routinely made quick work of anyone in their path.

Thursday looked a lot like 2003.

Paced by Olivia Caldwell’s solid effort, the Lady Feds breezed to a 25-9, 25-20, 25-9 victory over Rogers High at Southside Gym.

Along with her six aces, Caldwell did most of her damage with perfect sets for hitters Nicollette Milam and Chelsea McKim.

The junior setter finished with 20 assists, five kills and six aces.

Southside (11-6, 5-4) won just the second time in the last five matches, with two of those three defeats — against Bentonville and Fayetteville — coming in tight five-game sets.

Southside built a quick 15-2 lead in the opener, but struggled at times in the second game. Rogers’ Mikalah Booher brought the Lady Mounties (2-7 in league play) within 18-16 before Milam blistered a perfect set from Caldwell to make it 19-16.

Southside’s Loribeth Alexander helped finish off Rogers in the second game.

Another quick start in the third game helped finish off Rogers. The Lady Mounties, who had enjoyed big runs during the past three seasons under coach Jeana Breedlove, had no answer for the Lady Rebels.

McKim and Milam had 14 and 11 kills, respectively, for Southside. Brooke Hale added eight digs and five kills; Amy Driscoll and Kylie Blazic added
