Ok, ok, ok … So, we kind of let you down last week. I think we posted only twice, which includes our weekly Prepcast, so that’s not good. Sorry, it was a busy week, but we should have posted more often. Don’t worry, this is new for us, too, so in the future, we’re constantly making more efforts to be web savvy.
With that said, I figured I’d write a little about what happened Friday night and where that leaves us going into the last week of the regular season for all high school football teams.
In the 7A-West Conference, things got a bit clearer, I guess. No. 1 Bentonville won its ninth straight game with a 21-14 victory over Springdale High. There weren’t many other surprises, although there was one ironic score: Springdale Har-Ber 28, Fayetteville 7. If you’re lost, then here’s why that score is ironic — Fayetteville beat Har-Ber last year in the state championship game with the exact same score. So, I guess you could say it was perfect revenge for the Wildcats.
Just a quick note, and I’m probably going to write a story about this sometimes this week, but Bentonville has a chance this week to go 10-0. Only two other teams in this conference have ever done that: 2005 Springdale High and 2006 Rogers High. Bentonville plays at Springdale Har-Ber on Friday, so it will definitely be a tough game.
In the 5A-West Conference, all I’m going to say is that Siloam Springs is in a bit of a predicament. After starting the year 7-0, the Panthers could (yes, it’s possible) find themselves out of this year’s playoffs. Here’s the deal — they REALLY need to beat Harrison this week. Luckily for the Panthers, that game is at home.
In the 4A-1 Conference, it’s still a jumbled mess as to which team is going to get the last playoff spot. There are seriously like a million scenarios, so I won’t get into that, but here are the teams fighting for that last spot: Gentry, Berryville, Pea Ridge and Huntsville.
With the other small schools, West Fork is already a lock for the No. 1 seed in the 4A-4 Conference; Greenland REALLY needs to beat Elkins this week to secure a playoff berth; Lincoln is still winless this season.
